“Share in suffering as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. No soldier gets entangled in civilian pursuits, since his aim is to please the one who enlisted him.” (2 Timothy 2:3-4)
Are you are contended Christian in your comfort zone now that you are saved?
Well just know that the devil is very happy you are saved, because you’re not a danger to him and his kingdom anymore, yah true. He is not worried because he knows you’re not coming for any more of his people. You escaped from him and he is very fine about it and very happy about you staying your lane of worshiping the Lord.
The devil knows you are a nobody to his kingdom – are you?
Do you know that God, make us dangerous? Very dangerous and we need to be what He wants us to be – Soldiers in His Army.”
Unfortunately, too many of us have dropped out of the Lord’s army
All believers are called to be soldiers in the Lord’s army. We have different responsibilities and callings, but all should be actively engaged in the battle between good and evil, righteousness and sin, light and darkness, faith and unbelief, abundance and lack, and ultimately God and Satan.
Paul told the Ephesians 6, to put on the armor of God, that they were going to be called for a day of battle, and they needed to be prepared with weapons and armor. He said in 2 Corinthians there were weapons of our warfare that were mighty for destroying strongholds. He said in 1 Timothy to fight the good fight. Wage the good warfare. Here he’s telling Timothy, “Be a good soldier.” In Philippians he calls Epaphroditus his fellow soldier. In the book of Philemon he calls Archippus his fellow soldier
“For to you it has been granted on behalf of Christ, not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for His sake” (Philippians 1:29).
As Christian, we are called to endure hardships. Key aspect to pick on this is, there is a warfare to be waged. The Bible says in 1 John 5:19 “The whole world lies in the power of the evil one.” The devil is our great enemy. The battle is in regard to the souls of men. That’s what he is seeking, and after. He can’t touch God, but he wants the souls of men to perish. And so if we join up as soldiers in the army of Jesus Christ we will strive to see souls saved. We are getting the good people away from him and brought to God’s side, reconciled to God, forgiven of their sins.
What are our weapons as soldiers?
The Word of God is our mighty weapon, it’s our Sword. As a soldier of Jesus Christ, you are using the Word of God against the devil and his kingdom. It’s an amazing thing – you strike the Sword on a lost soul and they are healed not destroyed, the devil flees, and sin is exposed, and sin is eradicated.
Prayer as our weapon. The devil is not afraid of us, but when you pray in the name of Jesus, the devil is afraid of God, he’s afraid of Jesus Christ. Do you remember, the story where the demons were terrified of Jesus Christ and asked Him not to torment them? When you call on God through prayer that is a mighty weapon against Satan, the devil trembles & flees. So let’s use prayer as our mighty weapon.
The devil will attack us and you will have to attack him and his fortress. We go against their gates. The devil makes raids here in our generation, among us, but we Christians are called to go on a raid in his territory, and rescue captive souls. Preaching the Word to them, praying for their salvation, that they would be set free.
As a soldier am called to go to the dark places, fighting the battles of the Lord.
How do we do that?
Through Outreach: “He who wins souls is wise.” (Prov. 11:30). If you go to one who is straying, and you turn him from the stray of his ways, you will be doing the work of a soldier in the Lord’s army, saving souls from death. We can pick up the weapons and go out and fight against the powers of darkness and God will hear our cries, and bless our words, and souls will be saved.
Get out of your comfort zone, get out of the safety of Christian friends and go to places where people are needy and they don’t love the Lord and they don’t respect the Bible and they don’t pray and they don’t care, and go to them, and bring them to Christ. Lead them, point them to Christ, that they might be saved.
Where are the people that are totally clueless about all that the Bible says? We need to find them. We need to go to them. There is the power of God to take someone who is his enemy, who is totally clueless, totally lost, and add them as a disciple, as a worshiper, as a child of God.
We are commanded to encourage others as well as ourselves in the Lord. The day has arrived when Christ is sifting and shaking everything that can be shaken.
Through Overcoming Trials: As Christians, we will be tested, we all must undergo fiery trials. Those will come just because you’re saved, and God wants you to be holy, and the devil doesn’t like you, even if you don’t attack him. These trials will come.
“Share in suffering as a good soldier of Christ Jesus.” (2 Timothy 2:3)
There is an extra suffering that came when you get on the offensive. And it is true in our life. As you live for God, the more your inner fire burns, the more burden for soul that you have, the more prayers that you pray, the more that you reach out, and go out, suffering will come. People will hate you. You will be hated for the name of Jesus Christ.
You need boldness to overcome trials, boldness is courage going out to a place where there’s risk. We need real boldness to be willing to go out to confront people with the need of their souls, to rebuke sin, to pray for them, to share the gospel with them. Lord, make us bold as lions. The Bible says the devil is like a lion, prowling about, roaring, seeking to devour. But the Bible says Jesus Christ is the Lion of Judah. We need that lion-like boldness that says, “Lord, I may be weak, I may not know what I’m going to say, but I want to obey you and I want to see you save these people.”
Are you serving as faithful and good soldier in the army of the Lord?
Jesus promised, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” We are challenged to go forward for the cause of Christ and be good soldiers for Him.
“The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore, let us take off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light” (Rom. 13:12).
We are in already in a war. Let us enter the fight as fully trained soldiers with the full armor and power of our God.
Would you classify yourself as a good soldier of the Lord?
If you are like me, you probably recognize areas where you could be a better soldier. If you have never joined the army of the Lord, then today would be a good time to make that a reality or you can just remain a contended Christian.
But, that is up to you!
