Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil……….. Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. And he said to Him, “All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me.” Then Jesus said to him, “Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.’ ” Then the devil left Him, and behold, angels came and ministered to Him. – Mathews 4:1-11
There are things you can’t see until you bow down
Another story that is profound is in Daniel 3 – the story of Nebuchadnezzar Commanding Everyone to Worship a Gold Statue and Daniel’s Three Friends Are Accused of Disobedience – Daniel’s Three Friends Are Sentenced to Death and God works out a miraculous encounter which led to The Three Men Released and Promoted.
“And now I command that if anyone of any nation, race, or language speaks disrespectfully of the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, he is to be torn limb from limb, and his house is to be made a pile of ruins. There is no other god who can rescue like this.” – Daniel 3:29.
Who are you bowing too?
Many of us in our day to day are bowing to the earthly cities and wealth – and am not saying its bad to have cities and wealth. Many of us are bowing to hatred, jealousy, infidelity, and alcoholism. God’s Word assures us that every knee will bow to acknowledge Jesus Christ as Lord. And yet many of us go on betting our eternal destiny against this sure word from God, living as our own lords and saviors, as if God’s Word were uncertain or not true.
Because Jesus humbled Himself through the cross, God has exalted Him above all, so that all will submit to Jesus as Lord.
Jesus did not exalt Himself (although He could have), but the Father exalted Him, thus putting His stamp of approval on Jesus’ death as the satisfaction of the penalty for our sins. As Peter proclaimed in Acts 5:30, 31, “The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom you had put to death by hanging Him on a cross. He is the one whom God exalted to His right hand as a Prince and a Savior, to grant repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins.” The exaltation of Jesus proves that He defeated Satan, who could not keep Jesus in the grave -Col. 2:13-15.
To emphasize Christ’s exaltation and lordship, Paul adds, “of those in heaven, and on earth, and under the earth.” Every created being will submit to Jesus Christ. In heaven, the angels will bow willingly before Jesus.
If you could distill the entire book of Revelation into a single sentence it would be: Jesus Wins.
And, as His followers, we will stand victorious with Him. Death has been defeated and is now powerless over us as Christians. Future victory is assured and “every knee shall bow” – Philippians 2:9-11.
In this battle the ultimate enemy is Satan, not You or our fellow friends, colleagues, & family . I want to welcome you with an open heart to stand in the Lord’s army and be counted.
As Joshua said, “And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the LORD, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD” – Joshua 24:15.
